Councils working together for change – Portugal

The Aveiro Region Congress 2017 was held on 21 and 22 June 2017, and marked an important moment in the life of the Intermunicipal Community (CIRA). The aim of the congress was to share the main projects under development, namely those that are supported by the Community Funds of Portugal 2020 and to provoke a broad debate on decentralization and new municipal and intermunicipal competencies.

The “New Intermunicipal Projects” were presented, highlighting the areas of Education, Culture and Transport. In the “Investment and Development” component, the highlight was the Great Ria de Aveiro Route and the Integrated Tourism Project, the Aveiro Digital Region and the Aveiro Entrepreneurial Region. In this area, the Incentive System for Entrepreneurship and Employment was publicly presented, with the objective of operationalizing support for entrepreneurship and job creation through the Regional Operational Programs.

On the second day, the discussusion highlighted the “Internationalization” panel, with dedicated procurement sessions in the French and German markets. In the morning, thematic visits to “Baixo Vouga Lagunar” and to the “Science and Innovation Park” were held.
